Each BU has a monthly Vertex AI and BigQuery compute budget in MYR. Platform usage draws it down at the published chargeback rates. Publish something other BUs reuse and part of what they are charged comes back to your budget.

Budget holders are alerted at 80%, 90%, 100%. Past 100% workloads keep running; the overspend is journalled and the BU's head of finance is asked to approve a top-up. Using your own BU's assets draws your budget like any other usage; the rebate applies only when another BU reuses them.

Why budgets as well as chargeback. Chargeback tells a BU what it spent; a budget tells it what it can spend before anyone has to ask. Budgets are set with Group Finance in the annual cycle, carry forward one month, and are the lever Group Data & AI uses to reward BUs that publish reusable assets. Approved vendors hold no budget: they are paid under licence, as shown on Chargeback.
